Elizabeth Stewart, MD, a gynecologist from Harvard Medical School said, during orgasm, women experience uterine contractions in the uterus alias. These contractions are caused by prostaglandins, chemicals contained in semen and some body tissues. During pregnancy, the contractions feel more intense because the uterus to swell and blood flow increases.
In normal pregnancy, these contractions will not cause a miscarriage because the fetus is protected fetal tissue and uterine muscle is very strong.
In the book coitus During Pregnancy: Is It Safe? (Klebanoff, 1984), in some research about sex during pregnancy in the first trimester, the researchers found no link between sexual intercourse with premature birth and even miscarriage.
However, under certain conditions pregnant women are advised to avoid sexual contact in case of emergency conditions such as disorders of the cervix and placenta. Other conditions include:
- Ever miscarried
- Ever give birth prematurely or have symptoms of preterm delivery
- Vaginal bleeding or cramping
- Rupture of amniotic fluid
- Placenta previa, a condition in which placental position declined and closed the cervical area.
- Incompetent cervix, a condition in which the cervix is weakened and suffered an early opening.
- Twin pregnancy
- The couple has a sexual disease (STD - Sexually Transmitted Disease), such as herpes, chlamydia, or HIV. These diseases can be contracted in the fetus and endangered plant development.
