For lovers of tea, you should not consume in a hot state. A study says, sipping hot tea in a state at risk of cancer of esophagus (throat).
Consuming hot tea with temperatures 70 degrees Celsius, eight times higher risk of esophagus cancer than when consumed in warm conditions with temperatures 65 degrees Celsius.
Esophagus cancer is a deadly disease that kills more than 500,000 people worldwide each year. It is estimated that the number of patients that will survive up to five years is only around 12-31%.
In Iran, Golestan province is one of the regions with the number of people with throat cancer in the world. Though the amount of smoking and consuming alcohol in the province is fairly low.
Research was conducted by Reza Malekzadeh and colleagues from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, by looking at the tea-drinking habits of 300 respondents diagnosed with cancer of esophagus, compared with 571 female respondents and men in good health without cancer.
The respondents who originated from the province of Golestan, Iran is then asked to consume black tea regularly every day.
The results mentioned, those who regularly consume black tea at least two minutes after pouring in the cup, five times the risk of esophageal cancer than those who waited up to four minutes or more.
However, the research team can not be sure why the hot tea can cause cancer. But certainly on the hot temperature of tea is expected to hurt the lining of the throat. The higher the temperature the time sipping black tea drinks, the risk of esophagus cancer is also greater.
